UW Health Bariatric Surgery Patient Testimonial – Bill

>>Sure.>>So, go ahead.>>So, today is my three month checkup and
I’ve lost 64 pounds since my surgery date. I’ve actually lost 106 pounds since I
started the process back in November. One of the biggest things
was getting my wife onboard. She had seen me diet and fail and
diet and fail and I’ve lost 50, 60 pounds and I gain 60, 70 pounds back. So, she just thought this could be another
thing and she kept finding examples where this person got gastric bypass
and now, they’re back up to 600 pounds. I said that’s not going to happen, you
know, because you go through this process and UW personnel here, everybody, the staff
is so great and they are your advocate. You don’t do anything alone. You do everything with them. So, they make sure you’re safe, they
make sure that you’re going to succeed, and they’re not going to let
you go unless you can succeed. You do so much practice before the surgery of
eating and knowing how to eat and all the things that they teach you, that after surgery, they
just really start becoming second nature. Before with diets, like I had a
plan, you know, I’ve got to eat this, this is how many calories I can have, I can’t
go off this, blah, blah, blah, this is not that. This is what my body will tolerate. It’s a tool for me and I love it. I didn’t feel hungry for the first six weeks. Not one hunger, feeling of
hunger in that first six weeks. So, I had to put myself on a
schedule for when I’m going to eat, when I’m going to drink a protein
shake, when I’m going to drink water. I’m still on that schedule. You have to be committed. You have to know this is not a diet. This is a complete lifestyle change. And, like I said, you know, if you can’t commit
to being off caffeine, being off carbonation, liquor, cigarettes, all that, you can’t commit
to that, I would question why you’re doing this. Because that’s what I had from the very,
very, first minute I made that call, is the commitment to do whatever they
said I would need to do to get this done. And, I’ve kept that commitment. I still have that commitment,
because I love the results.
