Tackling Obesity with CRISPrs

Tackling Obesity with CRISPrs

I run a small research group which is
devoted to understanding the genetic causes of obesity and depression. One of
the things we’re interested in is finding the switch sequences which
control tiny proteins in the brain called neuropeptides. These neuropeptides in order to function properly have to be produced in the correct cells at the
correct time. The way we’re exploring these switches is to knock them out or to
delete them from the genome using a novel approach which is CRISPR genome editing. We believe that in doing this approach and in reproducing many of the
mutations which are known to be linked to obesity and depression we can start
to make serious inroads into understanding the genetic causes
depression and obesity.
