STOP DOING THIS if you want to lose weight in 2020 [10 THINGS TO AVOID]

In this video, I’m going to show you 10 things
you need to stop doing if you want to lose weight in 2020. What’s going on, guys Carlo Macapinlac here
from NewbieFitnessAcademy.com. I help busy professionals lose their unwanted
body fat so they can feel more confident and get the most out of their lives. If you’re new to the channel, make sure you
hit that subscribe button and hit the bell to get notified every time I post a new video
every week. OK, let’s start with the big one. If you want to lose weight in 2020, the first
thing that you need to stop doing is you need to stop listening to fake gurus and fake Instagram
influencers. Listen. I love social media. I think it’s a great way to inspire people
and motivate people. But it could also work the other way. Like one quick search on Instagram and you
will find an endless list of “influencers” with the word ‘fit’ attached to their
names like JohnSmithFat JaneDoeFit or whatever. And that’s fine. You can call yourself whatever you want. These influencers post shirtless pictures
every day. They post their their workouts. They post, you know, pictures in their bikini
and what not. And they’re usually pushing some sort of apparel,
supplement, booty bad or whatever. And then they’ll say, oh, use JaneDoe10 for
your 10 percent discount. Now, whatever they’re selling may or may not
work. But I guarantee you, I guarantee you they
did not get lean by using whatever booty band they’re selling. Like a lot of these influencers, they don’t
really walk the talk. They’re not really following whatever they’re
preaching. They probably don’t even use whatever product
they’re selling or they’re just selling cookie cutter advice. Like a lot of these people have never been
fat before. A lot of these people have never walked a
day in your life, in your shoes. They’ve never been fat before. They’ve never been frustrated. They’ve never felt stuck. A lot of these influencers, they won the genetic
lottery and they don’t really know what you’re going through. So why would you listen to them? Number two, try to limit your social media
consumption as much as possible. And this kind of adds to the previous point
is a lot of people on social media, they look like they have their life together. Because nobody really posts that they’re having
a crappy day. A lot of people just, you know, post their
highlights, like a lot of people post as if they’re at the gym all day. A lot of people post their healthy salad or
their meal prep for the week and whatnot. And that’s totally fine. But then you look at this stuff and you feel
bad about yourself because you haven’t been to the gym in two weeks. You haven’t gone to the gym at all. You had a bad day. And you’re you know, you’re just eating your
feelings away as you’re scrolling through social media. Like, how is that helping? Listen, don’t compare your behind the scenes
to everyone else’s highlight reel. That is a one way ticket to misery. And some of these people, they’ll say, oh,
what’s your excuse? That’s not helping at all. Listen, I’m a national level athlete and I’ve
done very well in international competition. So I kind of know a thing or two about working
out. And I am going to go the other way on this,
OK? I’m going to tell you now that you don’t even
need to go to the gym. If you want to lose fat, you don’t. When I work with my private coaching clients,
the last thing that I want them to worry about is, you know, whether they should go to the
gym. Like, no, you don’t start there. But then again, you go on Instagram and you
see JaneDoeFit or JohnSmithFit, and they’re giving you a 10 percent discount code for
their booty band or their protein powder. Are you starting to see the disconnect here? Number three, stop working out so much. Listen, I love exercise. I love working out. It’s great for building lean muscle and strengthening
your bones. It increases your energy levels. It can reduce your risk of chronic disease. It can help with your brain health and memory. It helps with relaxation and sleep quality
and so much more. There are many benefits of exercise. But weight loss is not one of them. It’s 2020 and so many people still believe
that they can exercise their way to a six pack. If that is your plan to lose weight in 2020. You, my friend, are in big trouble. Listen, I’m not saying that you shouldn’t
workout. Far from it. Your goal, honestly, is to just constantly
move your body and avoid prolonged periods where you’re sedentary. Again, we as human beings evolved to move. Otherwise, you’d be a tree. What you need to stop doing, honestly, is
you need to stop spending so much time doing chronic cardio. It’s not helping. Like I’m all about counting your steps. You know what I mean? Like, if your goal is to get your 10000 steps. That’s fine. You should keep doing that. But you need to stop looking at your Fitbit
and say, oh, I burned 500 calories during my workout today. Most of the time, that number is not accurate. And the problem with exercising so much is
it triggers what’s called the overcompensation effect. It goes something like this. Oh, I worked out today. I deserve, you know, insert whatever treat
you want to eat that day or I can have this. And, you know, I’ll just burn it off during
my workout. Listen, it is unbelievably easy to undo all
the benefits from working out by eating one bad meal or eating, you know, that treat,
because again, you somehow justified in your head that it’s OK to eat it because you worked
out. It does not work that way. Also exercising too much, you know, doing
chronic cardio also makes you way more susceptible when it comes to eating refined carbs and
sugar because exercising too much makes you hungry. Again, exercise has many benefits, but weight
loss isn’t one of them. I want you to think less but better when it
comes to your workouts and at the same time your workouts don’t have to be confined within
the four walls of your gym. Honestly, if your baseline is you’ve been
sedentary for years, going for a 10 minute walk will have tremendous benefits. Next stop, hanging out with people who aren’t
aligned with your goals. This is a big one. OK. Listen, you are the average of the five people
you spend time with the most. You’re the average weight of the five people
who you hang out with the most. Think about it. If you want to lose weight in 2020, you need
to be able to start saying no to people and stop trying to please everyone. And some of your current friends won’t understand
this. They’re always going to try and pull you back
to your old habits, especially if they don’t want to change. It’s the crab in the bucket mentality, right? They’re always going to try and pull you back
in. And here’s the thing. If your friends don’t support your goals,
your current goals, your new goals, you need to start making new friends. Next stop, being so impatient. This is a big one because we can be extremely
unrealistic sometimes when it comes to our goals. We are so impatient. Let me ask you this. If you want to lose weight, how long did it
take you to put on the weight that you’re trying to lose? Probably months, if not years. What makes you think that you can lose it
in a week or a month? It’s going to take some time. It’s going to be a process. But the most important part is the process. Like you need to fall in love with it. You need to fall in love with the journey
and just know that your results aren’t going to be linear. There’s gonna be ups and downs, peaks and
valleys. There’s going to be speed bumps along the
way. But as long as you make more good decisions
than bad, you’re eventually going to get there. Number six. Stop trying to take shortcuts. Please. I have to mention this because people still
fall for this stuff. No, you cannot freeze your fat away. You can’t take fat burners unless you want
to destroy your kidneys or feel like your heart is about to explode every single time. You can’t get liposuction. You can’t drink weight loss shakes for the
rest of your life. You can’t drink weight loss teas unless you
want diarrhea. You can’t keep eating Franken-foods, like
fake foods and think that it’s a better version because, you know, it’s low in calories and
it’s zero calories. There is absolutely no shortcut to this. OK. This takes time. There is, however, a proper way to lose weight,
a proper way to eat and make sure you stick around until the end of the video. Because I’m going to give you a proven plan
on how to do it properly, because, again, losing weight is hard enough as it is. And there’s definitely a right way and a wrong
way to do it. Number 7. Stop buying unnecessary supplements. And this kind of adds to my last point about
people taking shortcuts. Is that people fall in love with buying supplements. 10 percent discount code, anyone? Before you even start thinking about supplements,
you need to establish a baseline first. You need to establish a baseline of good eating
habits. Like, it’s in the name. Supplements are there to supplement something
that’s good already. Something that’s already working. It just enhances it. Which means that you need to standardize first
before you optimize. For example, right? Like if you take, you know, store bought multivitamins,
you know, you have good intentions. So you take this stuff. I personally think that taking supplements
is like lighting money on fire, especially if you don’t have good eating habits. You’re only getting the synthetic version
of that vitamin, which means that the bio availability or the rate that your body absorbs
that stuff is not very good. Vitamin A, for example, gets advertised a
lot in breakfast cereals or granola bars, oatmeal or whatever. But you’re actually just getting the precursor
to it, right? You’re only getting Beta carotene, you’re
not getting Retinol, which is what your body actually uses. So again, your body has to convert beta carotene
and it just reduces the bio availability of it. Then there’s your usual suspects that gets
pushed around a lot in the fitness industry, like pre-workout, BCAA’s and protein powders. No, no and no. You don’t need to take those things. And a lot of supplement companies will hate
me for saying that. But I don’t care. You need to eat your protein and I want you
to get all your nutrients from plants and animals. Number eight. Stop buying fitness programs but never executing. Listen, you’re not gonna find a shortage of
people selling diet plans and workout programs. Again, just check your Instagram right now. But the first step when it comes to this stuff
is you want to learn from people who already have what you want. You want to learn from people who’s been in
your shoes. And you also want to learn from people who
are getting other people results. So you’ve got to walk first before you can
run. You need to learn the process that actually
works before you even implement any sort of process. And this is where it gets really confusing
because there’s a lot of bad information out there. I would say ninety five percent of the information
out there is just noise. It’s garbage. And, you know, people try to figure this out
on their own. And that’s probably the most painful way to
do it. But on the other side of it is that people
are extremely prone to buying diet plans and workout programs because they think that it’s
going to magically solve all their problems. It looks like this magic pill that’s going
to fix everything. Listen, the only way that it works, assuming
that you get your hands on the right information is if you actually do it. If you buy a program but you never follow
it, it’s not going to do much for you. Thanks, Captain Obvious. Number nine. Stop doing the same thing. Listen, the definition of insanity is doing
the same thing over and over again, expecting a different outcome. If you’re watching this video right now, then
whatever you’ve done up to this point hasn’t really worked as expected. Let’s be honest. What makes you think that doing an extra hour
of cardio or an extra thousand sit-ups when you’ve already done like a million is going
to magically make you lose weight? You need to assess what you’re currently doing
right now. And here’s the thing, and this is a big thing. Again, they’re all big is that you need to
be brutally honest with yourself, if it’s not working. What is your role in this whole scenario? Like, are you helping yourself achieve your
goals or are you hindering yourself? And if you’re hindering yourself, then you
need to change something. You have to do something different. Nothing changes if nothing changes. Okay. Last but not the least, you need to stop procrastinating. I’m going to give you some tough love here,
but bare with me. Let’s call a spade a spade. OK. Everyone, literally, everyone is given the
same 24 hours during the day. If you have access to a smartphone or a computer
and you’re watching this video right now, you are among some of the luckiest people
on the planet. Which means that you have choices. And there’s always going to be this thing
called ‘life’ that happens. You’re always going to be faced with temptations
left, right and center, whether that’s a celebration, a birthday party, an event, whatever, they’re
always going to come up. Right. That’s why having the right system that you
can follow is extremely important. That way, you can always get back on the horse
the next day when these events happen. Listen, the best time to start was yesterday. The second best time to start is today. Right now. Even if you’ve failed at losing weight more
times than you can imagine, it’s never too late. And the only time that you actually lose is
if you quit on yourself. And you, my friend, are not a quitter. And I’m going to share one of my favorite
quotes with you to end this video. You don’t have to be great to start, but you
have to start to be great. Better yet, you just have to start. And if you stop doing all the things that
I mentioned in this video, it’s not a matter of if you’re going to lose weight, it’s only
a matter of when. The next question then becomes, how are you
actually supposed to eat if you want to lose weight? Because here’s the thing. 80 percent of your body composition is determined
by your diet. You can’t just freestyle this part. Do you have a proven plan that you can follow? To help you with that, I want to give you
a free copy of my lean body blueprint. This is how I melted all the fat around my
stomach without depriving myself of my favorite foods or wasting hours at the gym. It’s a simple four step process, specifically

my private coaching clients and they’ve all gone to see some amazing results. If you want to be the next success story,

  2. Great video! My favourite is not to be with people who aren’t in favour of your success. Negative people galore!!! Avoid at all costs.

  3. Man your advice has helped me tremendously! Just curious, what is your take on fiber? I've heard that increasing it can be a great weight loss tool.

  4. I like the last one. How many times we hear people saying "I will start the gym on Monday" or "I will start dieting on Monday or next Month? I decided to give IF a try and once I decided to do it did not wait till next day or Monday and that is why now I am not sure when the first week ended but I am pretty happy I took a step forward. Have lost 7 pounds so far and that is amazing (I know it is more water weigh than anything else but the scale moved down and that feels great). Procrastinating is the worst thing we can do to ourselves…

  5. Carlos u are a great motivator. I appreciates ur insight and inspiring info for realistic habits and goals. Love u!! Keep up ur good works!!
