  1. "…its the chance of a lifetime, in a lifetime of chance…" one of my all-time favorite of Dan's lyrics…

  2. Thank you Amy, you've brought us to the 3rd row, feel like we were there too, listening and watching this handsome gorgeous man! Thank you so much for sharing!

  3. This was so stirring to watch, the song on it's own can reduce me to tears but with the images too, wow! Amazing

  4. I love your beautiful video accompaning this great inspirational song! Horses are so beautiful; magnificent animals ♥ ♥ ♥ ♥ ♥ Nice tribute to Mr Dan Fogelberg! Thanks so much for sharing this; adding to my favorites 🙂 Happy New Year! *****

  5. I did not know before that foals and mares rub their faces together … explains a lot with my daughter's pony, who just loves to have her face stroked 🙂 Thnx

  6. As a resident of Louisville, KY, this song holds a special place in my heart. Dan Fogelberg hit it out of the park on this one.

  7. beautiful video! I host a Derby party every year and this year I am running your video up until race time! Thank you!

  8. I watched it at a bar that was holding a KD party. It was broadcast on huge screens as well, but it's nice to have one of those at home. I'll get one eventually. I did not pick Animal Kingdom, as I suspect many didn't. But he DOES have the pedigree. All the over analysis by everyone in the horse racing world hardly gave anyone enough time to study all the info about ALL the horses. I hope you were able to win something. Animal Kingdom will be running the Preakness. I play this every year.

  9. @SoothesMySoul Dan’s lyrics and melodies have inspired me to come forward to create tribute videos to him after his passing, and I am glad I have done it and accomplished many. May his timeless music and boundless love continue to heal us through the toughest times, bring joy and happiness to you and stays in our hearts for ever on… God bless you always!

  10. Awesome video, beautifully put together…..along with the lyrics, it's a fitting tribute to the Derby and to thoroughbred horses. Thank you for such a gift.

  11. BEAUTIFUL,
    THIS SONG MAKES ME CRY!
    FOR MANY THINGS IN LIFE!!
THIS SONG PLAYS AT THE KENTUCKY DERBY YEARLY

COME TO LOUISVILLE, KENTUCKY , I'M SURE YOU WILL FIND THEM HERE!!
THIS IS THE PARTY TOWN FOR SURE!!
    BEAUTIFUL HERE!! 4-3-12

  12. HE HAS YOUR NAME RESERVED ON THE SEAT RIGHT NEXT TO HIS!!
THE SIGN READS FOR STEVE….. ONLY!
MILLIONAIRE'S ROLL!! … WITH A GLASS OF THE FINEST KENTUCKY'S WOODFORD RESERVE BOURBON ….CAN'T GET NO BETTER THAN THAT,

  13. Gorgeous! What would be even more gorgeous is if the organizers of the Derby took pics of all the winners of previous years and put them on a clip with this song…and add the pick of the next winner each year!! *goosebumps*

  14. I had the distinct privilage of viewing this on ABC's intro to the Kentucky Derby many years ago. Dan's song, voice, and the pictures left an indelible imprint upon my soul. I've written NBC (now broadcast contract holder for the Kentucky Derby) to air Dan's piece for their intro to the Derby … every year I check it out … still waiting & hoping. Thanks for posting the video for all to see & hear.

  15. I love the song and it is a nice tribute but half the horse you showed will never "Run for the Roses" as they are not Thoroughbreds. You will never see a paint in Thoroughbred racing as Paints are separate breed. I have adopted 2 OTTB's and seeing how these animals are cast aside after they are used up I am no longer a fan of Thoroughbred racing. It was a beautiful piece when it ran though.

  16. This song really has a wonderful place at the Kentucky Derby,it;s truly beautiful and so very fitting for this great event,And Dan did an outstanding job of it, and the video was so impressive, brings tears to my eyes, Thank you so much JMEagle for this beautiful video, and many thanks to utube for putting it on.

  17. Thank you for posting this. I share it EVERY year on Derby Day. Being from Kentucky, this song makes me SO proud to live here. You did an excellent job with the video….when "with mama beside you to help you along" the tears start to flow. It is an amazing thing to watch.

  18. This song truly fits Orb…he just won the Kentucky Derby in spectacular fashion coming from behind in 17th place in the last quarter mile to win the Run for the Roses with still plenty to spare…only a super horse could withstand such a grueling pace..Finally after 35 long years, the Triple Crown drought might be finally over…

  19. I wish they would show this prior to every Derby. I remember watching and listening to this in 1980. Going to the Kentucky Derby is on my bucket list!

  20. I have alway loved this song. I think of the great Secretariat when i hear it. I think all horses are beautiful, not just the winners. RIP Dan and Big Red

  21. This video reminds me of former Kentucky Governor's stables. I love the entire Midway area. Very good job on your part..

  22. At Lynnea Woxberg.  Genuine Risk Was 2nd in the Preakness – Codex with Angel Cordero won the race amid controversy – he supposed hit Genuine Risk across the nose with his whip coming down the stretch.  And she was 2nd in the Belmont as well – to Temperence Hill.

  23. Run For The Roses …. As Fast as you can…. The most played song in history today for "The Kentucky Derby"   May 3rd 2014……..Perfect weather today, 113,453 People showed up for The Oaks Yesterday…… One of the largest amount of people  in years….. Can't wait for the count for today… For The Kentucky Derby…….It is party time Today………

  24. I love this song any time of the year. You did a wonderful tribute to Dan Fogelberg. I glad I found this one first.

  25. Beautifully made video that captures the emotions of raising and running championship horses.  Thank you so much!

  26. I loved Dan's music since I was 13! This song really touched me because I love horses so much! Here's to California Chrome!

  28. Just beautiful and majestic…Dan Fogelberg is missed yet his music will live on. I'm proud to be living in God's country in Kentucky

  29. This would be a Top 20 (US) hit in the spring of 1982.  It has lived on for many years as a song heavily played around the time of the Kentucky Derby each year.

  30. This is one of my favorite songs and you have done an amazing job with this video. Thank so much for posting this inspiring video

  31. On this day in 1982 {June 6th} Dan Fogelberg appeared at the 'Peace Sunday: We Have a Dream' anti-nuclear concert at the Rose Bowl in Pasadena, California…
At the time his "Run for the Roses" was at #23 on Billboard's Hot Top 100 chart; two weeks earlier on May 23rd, 1982 it had peaked at #18 {for 2 weeks} and it stayed on the chart for 14 weeks…
It reached #3 on Billboard's Adult Contemporary Tracks chart; and #1 on the Canadian RPM Adult chart…
Between 1975 and 1987 he had thirteen Top 100 records; four made the Top 10, his biggest hit was "Longer",  it peaked at #2* {for 2 weeks} on March 9th, 1980…
    * It took two British super groups to keep "Longer" from reaching #1; the first week it was "Crazy Little Thing Called Love" by Queen and for the second week it was "Another Brick in the Wall (Part One)" by Pink Floyd…
Daniel Grayling Fogelberg passed away on December 16th, 2007 at the young age of 56 {cancer}…
    May he R.I.P.

  32. who won ? does anyone remember? or care? I worked for years training horses, well galloping them for trainers , it's just a sad big industry that works the devil out of man and horse and there's damn little glory for those that spend 16 hours a day with these wonderful creatures . No horse racing is lovely from a distance keep it there

  33. This video started out promising, showing Thoroughbred stables, mares with foals, but then it showed horses that were NOT Thoroughbreds, and the pictures didn't match up with the tone or words or the song. It should have finished up with a Kentucky Derby winner wearing the sash of red roses. I would have also added pictures of Thoroughbred mares and stallions, then a picture or two of a young horse being trained before showing the Kentucky Derby pictures. Perhaps I'll try to make my own collage for this song.

  34. Actually the horses are raised in not Western, not South Central, but Central Kentucky, the actual Bluegrass in the Bluegrass state. Still, lovely song.

  35. JEAN ann KERR you are part rite but being from KY. and dealing with horses many ARE raised in WESTERN KY. Why do people have to put their 2 cents in esp. on a great song from a fantastic song writer.singer (R.I.P.) just let it be and listen to the song. NO NEED TO POINT OUT WHAT YOU THINK IS RITE. FOR THE LOVE OF GOD, LET IT BE. PEACE ALWAYS.

  36. This is actually the very song that got me interested in watching the Derby so many years ago. What an amazing piece of work. Thank you.

  37. My mother-in-law (rip) loved this song, until she listened carefully to the words and found out it was about horses!

  38. Pretty song and video but horse racing is a cruel sport. Sure the champions are celebrated but thousands and thousands wind up at cheap claimer races at nasty tracks and then to the….well, you know where then wind up.

  39. Still get chills watching Big Red run even today!!!!!!!! Love this music….so fitting for any breed in the horse world.

  40. This song means most to those who understand and love horses, but also those who truly understand the meaning of life.

  41. This song to me is about learning to be independent. My dear Dad passed away 2 months ago and I’m truly alone now.
    Dad loved Fogelberg too

    🌹🙏🏻🕊

  42. The first Saturday in May is one of my favorite days of the year.. Looking forward to Spring and Summer 2018!
