Meet Cathy Carr-Dadin, RN, CBN, Certified Bariatric Nurse | Ascension Baltimore

I come from a long family history of
nurses. My grandmother was a nurse. My great aunt was actually a
nurse in World War I and was mustard gassed in France. My uncle’s wife is a nurse. My
younger sister is a nurse. My cousin is a nurse.
There are nurses all around in my family. When I had my surgery back in 1999, I was
a nurse working in OB/GYN. When I learned that they were going to start a
program at Saint Agnes, I wanted to get involved because I knew the best way to
keep my weight off was to be involved in a program. Since my surgery was out
of state, I didn’t have access to a support group. My role as the bariatric nurse
coordinator is to care for my patients from seminar for years out. In fact, I
have touched every patient that has had their surgery at Saint Agnes. When I think about the changes patients
are going through and the things they’ve been able to achieve, it’s
heartwarming. It puts me back in those days that I had my surgery
and remembering the things I was suddenly able to do that I wasn’t
able to do for years. It’s a blessing to see their changes and to
know that I’m a small part of that. I work out. I am active in my church. I
sing in the choir. I have two little dachshunds that I adore. I have a
wonderful, wonderful husband and two boys. It’s so much easier to live when
you’ve lost 190 pounds–to be active, to take vacations, to be able to do
exciting things like hike, ride in helicopters, canoe, and kayak. That’s
what I like to do on my time off.
