More and more Korean adults are putting on
weight,… as the obesity rate reached nearly 40 percent last year. According to data from the Welfare Ministry
and the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention,… around two out of five men and one out of
four women over the age of 19 were categorized as obese. It was the first time that the male obesity
rate topped the 40-percent mark. Men in their forties had the highest obesity
rate at 49-percent,… followed by men in their thirties and fifties. Also,… the smoking rate for Koreans aged
19 and above rebounded last year… to nearly 24-percent, with over 40-percent of males,
and six-and-a-half-percent of females classed as ‘smokers’.
