Oh hi my name is Joseph McPhee bariatric surgery has come a long way from the initial open operation where we tried many different techniques it was so much harder on the patient because we often didn’t take care of them afterwards like we should have and it changed over to going into laparoscopic procedures and made it easier on the patient it’s not necessarily the technique itself which I think we’ve perfected but it’s how we keep patients from failing after the surgery in itself that we’re still I think we’re just starting to really figure out what type of relationship the office the surgeons the dietitians the health physiologists need to establish with their patients in order to help our patients succeed so not necessarily from a technical standpoint but how we educate our patients beforehand to prepare them for the surgery in itself and for the life that they’re going to be leading afterwards the most important thing to consider when looking at weight loss surgery is the fact that the surgery in itself is sort of just the beginning of the journey that you’re going to go through its it only lasts for two days in the hospital and then you’re on a kind of a modified diet for two or three weeks but after that it’s up to the patient’s to go ahead and make the the right decisions to go ahead and use the tool that is weight-loss surgery you
