David’s Weight Loss Lap Band Success Story – Festus, MO

[music] The change drastically, I can do things I
couldn’t have dreamt of doing a year and a half ago. Everything from tying my shoes to
walking distances, walking uphills, having energy, wanting to do things instead of sitting
on the couch or having to stop and catch my breath and it’s getting better and better.
I’m getting stronger and stronger. I’m still a work in progress. I have about another 60
pounds to go and it’s really, really neat getting rid of old clothes and putting on
new clothes whenever you, instead of growing into your clothes, you are shrinking down
out of them and it’s a wonderful feeling but I think the best part is I just feel different.
I feel like a good person. I feel like a different person. I feel healthy, I feel stronger, I
don’t avoid mirrors. To be honest I had that lap band and I really
expected the band to do all the work for me. Well that’s just not the way it is. You have
to make smart choices. I was almost 66 years old when I got this lap band and I’m a retired
paramedic, I was a paramedic for 34 years and we didn’t see many people. I weight over
400 pounds. We didn’t see many people that age and that size for one reason, they die,
I know that, that’s how I made my living. Those people die. You are not too old. You
are definitely not too old to do it and if you don’t do it when you are younger or make
changes you won’t get to be old. That’s just the way it is. Why in the world would someone do that to
themselves? It’s just horrible and I keep like I told you, I keep that picture for one
reason, that’s to remind me of where I was and I never want to go back to. It’s all I
can do to walk that hallway. I’m not talking about hills and steps, I’m talking about just
down a hallway and it’s all I can do to walk down, I’m just so out of breath. Well you
take that 100 pound pack off your back, it’s not the same world. It’s just not and the
energy level has, is just totally different. Anybody that would do this and follow a few
simple rules or if maintain their lapse value, they don’t find the same thing to be very,
very true. Oh, it is worth it. If I revert back to my old bad habits I will
be right back where I was and I have a lifetime of bad habits to break and that’s why one
of the things that the support group they have here really, really helps me maintain
my focus. I’m on a dietary roller coaster like this. Emotional, no, I’m pretty steady.
I don’t change a whole lot. Dietary wise, yeah, well I can eat this today it won’t hurt,
well it does hurt. It’s just little by little fall back to where you were and I’m just not
going to let that happen. If you ever considered weight loss surgery,
I highly recommend you go find out about it and you go to the educational section, see
what it is all about, ask questions and then make an informed decision. It has changed
my life for the best. I’m 66 years old and you don’t see many people as fat as I was
at my age because they die. Take care of yourself, enjoy your life, enjoy the quality of your
life and be around for your family. You won’t regret it. [music]
