– [Man] This Medical Minute is brought
to you by Indian River Medical Center, with medical information
that’s important to you. – [Dr. Courty] Hello. I’m Doctor Morgan
Courty, primary care provider at Indian River Medical Center. Today we’ll discuss
childhood obesity and the importance of family health and fitness. Did you know,
one in three children between the ages of two and 19 is considered overweight or
obese, putting them at risk of serious health problems including, type 2
diabetes, high blood pressure, high cholesterol, heart disease, and more. The
good news is that fit children are able to control their weight, build lean muscle
and strong bones, show lower risk of chronic illnesses, have higher
self-esteem, and are more likely to continue healthy lifestyle into adulthood.
Children should receive 60 minutes of daily activity. Engaging in physical
activity as a family can be a fun way to keep everyone moving, so be
sure to get outside and play together. ♪ [music] ♪
